Meet Orit, jscreen Marketing Manager

My genetic journey began at 16, when my mom was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. Thankfully, my mom is now healthy and has been in remission for over 25 years, but watching her go through treatment left a lasting impact.
At the time, BRCA testing was new. For years, I shared my family history with doctors, noting “breast cancer – mom” on every medical form. My doctors never raised the possibility of a hereditary link, and I didn’t know to ask.
Everything changed in 2011, when I learned that two of my cousins tested positive for the BRCA2 mutation. That news led me to genetic counseling and testing, where I discovered I also carry the mutation.
With that knowledge, I had choices my mother never did. I entered a high-risk screening program, began early and regular monitoring, and ultimately made the proactive decision to undergo preventive surgeries that significantly reduce my cancer risk.
This journey has also impacted my family. We later learned my mom is the carrier, and that both me and one of my siblings inherited the mutation – a powerful reminder of the importance of awareness and testing.
Through jscreen, I’ve continued to learn and deepen my understanding, guided by incredible genetic counselors. Today, I’m proud to help others access the same information and options that empowered me.
Genetic testing isn’t just about knowing; it’s about having the ability to act. Because of it, I was able to advocate for my own health and make decisions that changed my future.
